Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets Keep It Close Against Mason, Lose On Walkoff

Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets fell to Mason 2-1 on Thursday at Greenville High School on the final play of the game. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the eighth when VandenGiessen singled, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Mason pitchers struck out one, while Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets sat down seven.
Mason were the first to get on the board in the third when Beach singled, scoring one run.
Emily Rice singled down the left field line, which helped Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.
VandenGiessen earned the win for Mason. The pitcher gave up six hits and one run over eight innings, striking out one and walking none. Cam Klco took the loss for Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets. The starter went seven and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on six hits, striking out seven and walking five.
Rice led Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets with one run batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Drew Galey went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets in hits. Galey stole two bases. Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets didn't commit a single error in the field. Aubrie Uebele had the most chances in the field with eight.
Number seven hitter, VandenGiessen, showed the depth of Mason's lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Beach and VandenGiessen each drove in one run for Mason. Mason had a strong eye at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
