Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets Defeat Hopkins Varsity Vikings On Multiple Hit Performance By Emily Rice

Emily Rice collected three hits in five at bats, as Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets defeated Hopkins Varsity Vikings 13-8 on Saturday. Rice hit a home run to left field in the eighth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets got on the board in the top of the first inning after Drew Galey doubled down the left field line, Alexa Hyler grounded out, and Galey scored after tagging up, each scoring one run.

A single by Galey extended the Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning.

Hopkins Varsity Vikings scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to left field by Ava Vanderkolk on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.

Hopkins Varsity Vikings tied the game up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to two singles. Hopkins Varsity Vikings tied the game at seven on a single by Calleigh Washburn.

Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring six runs on six hits to take the lead, 13-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Aubrie Uebele that drove in two.

Rice earned the win for Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets. The starting pitcher allowed 17 hits and seven runs over eight innings, striking out five and walking none. Hannah Brinks took the loss for Hopkins Varsity Vikings. The right-handed pitcher went eight innings, giving up 12 runs (11 earned) on 21 hits, striking out three and walking two.

Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets tallied 21 hits in the game. Emma Durdle and Uebele each collected four hits for Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets. Hyler and Uebele each drove in three runs for Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets. Alexis Enbody, Rice, Galey, and Jenna Jenks each collected multiple hits for Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets. Hyler and Durdle each stole multiple bases for Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets. Greenville Varsity Yellow Jackets ran wild on the base paths, tallying seven stolen bases for the game.

Hopkins Varsity Vikings collected 17 hits in the game. Lyla Reynolds, Cami Hibma, and MaKenna Funk each collected three hits for Hopkins Varsity Vikings. Washburn and Funk were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Hopkins Varsity Vikings. Kelsey Burgess, Brinks, and Vanderkolk each collected multiple hits for Hopkins Varsity Vikings.
