On Saturday, August 24th the Greenville JV volleyball team saw our first action of the season at the Thornapple-Kellogg tournament. There were 8 teams total with 2 pools of 4. In our first match of pool play, we started out well, but split with Lowell (25-21, 22-25). In the next two matches, we didn't play as well -- losing to Caledonia (15-25, 7-25) and Byron Center (10-25, 20-25). We ended up 3rd in our pool, which placed us in the consolation bracket where we played much better team volleyball. In the first round, we played 2 close sets and ended up beating Saugatuck (27-26, 25-22). Then in the final match of the day, we faced Lowell again and played a pretty error free match, winning 25-19 and 25-16. Even though we had some mental breakdowns early in the day, it was overall a good learning experience for us. We finished the tournament 2-2-1.
